The effects of hedonically acceptable red pepper doses on thermogenesis and appetite
► Ingestion of red pepper (RP) increased energy expenditure and core temperature. ► Respiratory quotient was lower after oral RP ingestion compared to capsule form. ► RP ingestion lowered intake and appetite in spicy food non-users, but not users. ► RP's effects on energy balance are a combination of metabolic and sensory inputs. ► Desensitization to RP's effects may occur with long-term spicy food intake.
