13th Collective Social Responsibility Forum

  • When we think of India, we think of diversity and culture, but we also think of overpopulation. A burgeoning population of 1.2 billion means that the average age in the country is 29 and half our population is under 25 years of age. We have the opportunity to turn this seemingly negative factor into a boon for India’s development, as we have a large potential workforce at the ready. Additionally, the ageing population in more developed countries also indicates a shortfall of global skilled labour power of approximately of 56.5 million by 2020.

The urgent need of the hour is investing in skill training to create sustainable, inclusive development for all Indians. Skilling refers to the training, practical, theoretical and soft skill knowledge of current industry standards. It involves harnessing the untapped potential of the youth and making them employable with relevant skills for the current job market. The problem lies in the fact that we have the lowest proportion of trained youth in the world.

Deeply entrenched problems require innovative solutions. And for the same, Times Foundation & Action Aid India along with Bennett University as Education Partner, Dainik Bhaskar as the Media partner and Nagrik Dialogue & Nagrik Foundation as Social Partner are organizing the 13th Collective social Responsibility Forum based on the burning issue of Unemployment, Skill Training, Youth which is haunting the country now. The forum is supported by one of the major Skill Training Organization Don Bosco Tech India as partner and knowledge provider on the current status of skilling in the country. The motive of the forum was to find the solution to the loopholes like dropout ratio, post placement retention which are the major reason of failure & also emphasize on the need of Soft Skills, Counseling, Future of Skill and Jobs in the country. During the event, some case studies were presented by Fr. A. M. Jose, Executive Director, Don Bosco Tech and the beneficiaries had shared their real stories.

Dignitaries from Times Foundation, Action Aid, Don Bosco, Bennett University, Dainik Bhaskar and various corporate houses were present in the event.  Mr Harbhajan Singh, Director, Honda Motors, Mr. Deepak Dwevedi, Editorin Chief, Dainik Bhaskar, Ms. Dipali Sharma, Director Action Aid emphasized on skill training across country and quality of training.

Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak was the Chief Guest for the program and he empansized on collective effort should be made to upgrade the status of youth and underprivileged. Dr. Rashmi Singh, IAS, Secretary, NDMC was the Guest of Honour for the program and she emphasized on skill training done by NDMC across the state, she also requested corporate and organizations to participate and work collectively to achieve the goal.

Corporate Heads and CSR Leaders participated in the program and discussed the role corporates/organizations can play by providing innovative solution which may be linked to technology. The conference was organized on the platform of Collective Social Responsibility Forum ideated and developed by Times Foundation & Action Aid.

The program was supported and anchored by students from Bennett University. Students got hands on experience about CSR and Skill Training from market leaders during the event. A shared commitment to evidence?based, long term and business friendly strategy brings together these organizations, with links to civil society, the media and industry.
